What would explain the high number of aggressive and fearful Boston Terriers?

I work in the kennel at a vet hospital. I've noticed that most (~75%) of the aggressive and fearful dogs happen to be Boston Terriers. I could understand this if they all belonged to the same person, however, they all belong to different people. So, why are so many of the Boston Terriers we board and treat aggressive and fearful? Do you think there's a bad Boston Terrier breeder in the area?

  1. What area do you work in? That might help.
  2. Poor breeding is most likely. Poor upbringing (lack of proper socialization and/or training) is another possibility. Yes, it is possible they are from the same breeder OR from the same genetic lines (siblings, cousins, etc). Wouldn't be surprising..... Also have to keep in mind that a kennel and vet office is a HIGHLY stressful place for dogs. Many good natured dogs are terrified of vet offices and kennels because all they get at those places are jabs and the like. Not pleasant experiences. Terror can become fear aggression.
  3. Poor breeding is what I would guess. Plus, little dogs seem to be spoiled more often than they are trained & socialized.
  4. Absolutely I think you have a crappy breeder around. I noticed a similar schnauzer phenomenon in our area about 15 years ago but thankfully most of the schnauzers I see now a days are at least of average niceness. I think I've only seen about 5 mean bostons in my life. Most of the ones I see would lick your face off before they would bite it.
  5. poor breeding and I think that you are right about the bad boston terrier breeder
  6. Soundss like a BYB pumping out bad Bostons to me. All the Bostons I have met in my area have been happy, sweet little guys, if not a little hyper.
