What are some distinctions between living in Boston and living in Chicago?

I'm considering moving to either Boston or Chicago. Are there some distinct differences between them? Are there certain types of people that tend to enjoy and thrive in one or the other?

  1. They are like night and day and I have lived in both. Chicago people are much more friendly and the city is so much better. Boston is infested with pseudo intellectual Liberals who care nothing about America, only about themselves.
  2. I would say that it would totally depend on what field you're going into. Also, keep in mind that the cost of living is going to be much higher in Boston compared to Chicago. That's something you'll have to consider as well. As far as weather, Boston and Chicago are pretty much the same. Both have hot summers, cold winters and wind constantly. Bostonians pride themselves on being politically progressive--so if you're more conservative, it might not be a great fit for you. Both cities have different personalities to them. Boston is a much older feeling, very intellectual feeling to it, it's also very politically active compared to Chicago; while Chicago prides itself on being a more modern, slower paced version of NYC--it has a much better nightlife. In my opinion, Chicago has a more generic feel to it but there's more to do (just because Chicago is about 3x larger than Boston). I think that if you were offered jobs in both cities, I'd go with Chicago. I live in Boston and I definitely like it, but it takes a certain type of person to love it here. Everyone I know from Chicago, from all walks of life, seem to enjoy it there! Good luck!
