What current vehicles would make good survival bug out vehicles?

I have been looking into survival and bug out gear on the internet and youtube videos. They say 4X4 vehicles with diesel engines are the best for bugout vehicles. What vehicle would you choose?

1. I'm not a vehicle expert but i do know a little about emergency preparedness. I get the the Newsletter from FrontierSurvival.com and they had a little info in the last one about bugging out. Here is a quote from the them on bug out transportation "Transportation: You may also want to keep your car's tank at least half full, since gas pumps may not work if there's no electric power. By the time you reach a gas station, you may be likely to find it sold out - or charging exorbitant prices, because the owners know you didn't have any choice but to pay what they ask. Much better to leave with a full tank of gas, and enough in spare containers to fill up on the road, if you have to, in order to reach your destination. And remember a big vehicle can be a handicap. It's not a bad idea to have smaller, more maneuverable vehicles, and a smaller travel trailer, so that one can "squeeze through" in a tight traffic situation. Another point a big SUV or pickup burns a lot of fuel. This is bad news when there's no fuel available!"
