What would you do if your boss purposedly held off on submitting payroll?

Paychecks are passed out every Wednesday, but they do not arrive. You learn that the boss purposedly did not submit payroll in time. Would you quit on the spot, or would you forgive the one time?

  1. Call the labor commissioner in your state. Your employer is required to give you a paycheck at the times that are stated, such as once a month, every 2 weeks, etc.
  2. If it was a one time thing. Give him a break. Would you expect to be fired if you made one mistake? If it happens on a regular basis, you should talk to him first. If that doesn't help, you can report him to the State labor office, there are laws that require paychecks be made available on time.
  3. My boss continuosly does that! But since Im the one who makes his deposits he has learned when he doesnt pay me on time I dont make his deposits on time! Technically its illegal to withhold your paycheck, you could go to the employment comission. Me and the other employees have been here so long we just find ways to piss off our boss when he doesnt pay us. But thats due to his gambling habit, its up to you what you do
  4. Report your boss to the HR dept if you have one. If there is no one above your boss then you may have other options, try contacting the state unemployment office and ask for direction. Don't quit if you like your job, its his fault for being lazy or playing the numbers on the book.
