In the revolutionary war why were colonist and the british fighting over the city of boston. Why was boston so important in this war?

  1. Many of the "trouble-makers" as far as the British were concerned were in Massachusetts. Sam and John Adams, John Hancock, Henry Knox, to name a few. There were others in other colonies, like Patrick Henry of Virginia, but it seems the most vociferous of the group were in the Boston area. And remember where the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party took place. That's right, Boston. So the British decided if they could control Boston, they would be able to put the fear of the British into the rest of the colonies. They viewed the Boston as where many of the leaders were, and they were right.
