How to claim debt which is linked to a property from executors who have not issued their probate? If there is a debt on a property owned by a person who is now deceased, how can the debt be collected if the executers do not issue their probate? The executers have been asked to pay the debt however because they are not issuing their probate I cannot claim the money owed to me from them. It has been quite some time since they were asked to pay the debt. Any advice on how I can get my debt.
How to confirm if you have a legitmate debt when debt collectors are sending letters? How to check to see if the debt is really legit? I know there's a statute of limitations of 7 years that prevents debt collectors from contacting you but what happens to the debt after that time frame? Also, if you get a letter from a debt collection agency stating you owe a debt, how to prove that the debt is real and you do in fact owe?
How do you settle debt with credit card companies? I've got some debt that's currently in collections. And I got to talking to one of the debt collectors and he revealed that the average company is willing to settle for about 75% of the debt owed. But since they're basically screwing you with outragous interest that never allows you to really pay off the principal debt, are they willing to settle for even less. What are some useful tricks when dealing with these parasites?
How old does a debt have to be, before you are no longer legally bound to pay it? I remember hearing once that a debt after a certain amount of years, is moot. Does it depend on the state where the debt occurred or you current state of residence? I heard that collection agencies that specialize in buying old debts, to try and collect on, HATE for people to know about these laws. Where does one look up information about this? And what exactly does one do to bring it to the attention of the collection people, that you are no longer obligated by law to pay on such an old debt?
How do debt collection companies start up? I'm kind of young, but feel that I would be very successful in the debt collection business. I want to change how they treat people and I really want to be my OWN company. How can I go about setting one up? Where do I find the debt? Please help!

What happens when a debt goes to a lawyer for debt collection? I have been out of work for a while and became unable to pay on a credit card debt. It has been about 90 days since my last payment and I just got a letter from a law firm stating they will be pursuing collecting the debt. I am still out of work and have no means to pay. What can I expect from this process?
What happens when someone pays his debt in a fractional-reserve banking system? What happens when someone pays his debt in a fractional-reserve banking system? Is only his past debt subtracted from the reserve or also all subsequent debts that was loaned to other people with his initial debt? For instance, a person A borrows 100$ then it becomes part of the reserve, then a person B can borrows from his deposit 80$, then a person C 64$, given a reserve requirement of 10% for banks.
How is debt sold by our government to other countries? How does the debt system work, what happens when the other countries buy our debt, can they sell our debt to other countries, can they force us to pay our debts at any given time, please explain how the national debt system works? Thanks, I need lots of details and really want to understand so thanks again for your help!
What is the difference between an overdraft and debt? My husband has run almost £2000 overdraft and he says its not debt just an overdraft, nothing to worry about. I am worried sick and I still see it as debt! He had just finished paying a massive debt last year which took him over 10 years to pay off. Now he's started a small one without telling me. I made him promise to tell me if he had any problems with money which he failed to do so. I helped pay off a few of his urgent debts in the past. I can't afford £2000 debt right now as things are different now we have young children and I'm unemployed.
What happens to people in debt when the dollar collapses? If the dollar gets reduced to zero and some person has thousands of dollars in credit card debt or mortgages, what happens to them? Are their debts wiped away? Are their assets going to be seized? I don't have debt. I just finished paying off the last bit. I'm just wondering. I don't literally mean reduced to zero, I mean fairly close to the point where currency traders unload the dollar on the world market. A dollar crash.
How have countries converted public debt in the past? Charles P Kindelberger mentions in Manias, Panics and Crashes that large-scale conversions of public debt occurred in 1822, 1824, and 1888. He also says interest rate declines were associated with the public debt conversion. Which countries have converted public debt and what did the creditors get in return? Is it correct to assume the debtor's currency is devalued and the government nationalizes private property to do so?
How do I find out which debt collection agency is holding my old debt? I had a rough time a few years ago, and stopped paying my credit cards and cell phone to be able to keep paying the rent and then i lost my job, it was all sent to debt collectors. I'm ready to get this taken care of so I can rebuild my credit somehow, but I don't know which companies hold the debts. How do I find out? I haven't heard from any of them in almost a year.
How many times can the same debt be placed on your credit report? I have had the same "debt" put on my credit report by the original lender, a collection agency over 2 years ago and now a brand new collection agency. I questioned the original debt on my report and they removed it, and now, it has obviously been sold to another collection agency who has put it back on my file. The original debt wasn't even mine, it was my husbands so I don't even know how it is getting on my file. If it helps, I live in Ontario, Canada.
How does the debt collection process work on an unsecured loan? I am 105K in debt(mortgage, student loan, car and the unsecured loan) and lost my former job due to lack of work. I got a new job but I am out 15K/yr. Through much juggling, I am paying off everyone except the unsecured loan on which I am paying 30/month(they want 260/mth) and they are unhappy I am paying them so little and threatening to sue me. I am trying to sell the house to pay off the mortgage and the personal loan and this is still at the original lender level. I am hoping I will get to work with a collections agency first since I can offer them the 30 I am now paying the creditor and when I sell the house I can pay the bill in full and have the credit bureau remove the blotch from my credit by showing evidence of payment. Do they go to collections or sue first? If they do sue, will they garnish my wages or freeze my checking account(no savings) or both? How does the debt collection process work on an unsecured loan? Tried debt consolidation but my house is not worth enough to do it and having other debt attached to it would reduce my chances of selling the house and paying off the mortgage and the personal loan. I am really looking for info on how the debt collection process works, not how to get out of debt. I have that part figured out unless I get sued. Thanks Thanks Taja but I am asking what the collection process is. I owe 105K out of which only 9K are unsecured debt. I am paying everybody except for the unsecured debt (to preserve my assets) and paying this unsecured creditor 30 a month hoping to sell my house to pay of the mortgage and the unsecured loan which will get rid of 64K off my debt and put approx 4 K in my pocket to move to an area with a better pay labor market. I am trying to find out (by learning how the collection process works) if I am going to have time to get this done before I have to worry about their coming after my wages and/or checking bank account. In other words, if I can work with a collection agency to which I can offer payments and pay the 30 I am now paying until I can sell the house. I already tried debt consolidation and I can't get a loan for 105 K with a house that is worth 79K as the only collateral. The rest I owe is my car and student loans which must be paid or they will be worse than this creditor. BBOYBALL: My mortgage is in perfectly good standing since I pay that before I even buy food. It is the only assett I have and I want to move to an area where I can work without having to commute an hour to do so. That is why I am selling the house: to move and to pay off the mortgage and the personal loan I took out to buy a new furnace and remove asbestos. I am willing to sell for 76K.
How can a debt collector use different cell phone numbers to call you? I have a debt collector that keeps calling me and using different local cell phone numbers. Even though I keep telling them that the debt is paid off and I have my cancelled check that I keep faxing to them over and over and over again, they won't stop calling me. How is it that they can use other people's cell phone numbers? And is there a chance they use mine to call people?
Is credit card debt considered an open account or a written contract? I live in the State of Georgia and am being sued over an old credit card that I defaulted on. It has been more than 4 years but less than 6 years since the date of default, so depending on whether credit card debt is considered an open account or a written contract in the State of Georgia, the Statute of Limitations may or may not apply. The Staute of Limitations is 4 years for open accounts and 6 years for written contracts. Does anyone know for certain which type applies for credit card debt in Georgia? The account is with Citibank MasterCard and was opened in the late 80's or early 90's. Thanks.
What is the best way to settle credit card debt? I am in search of a company or method that will allow me to settle or consolidate my credit card debt. How long can a debtor chase a debt is there a statute of limitations? A bill that was disputed and the company agreed to right off is now after four years of hearing nothing being chased and we are being threatened with it being passed to a debt company. We recently updated our account which we have had since the dispute and I think this old debt has suddenly appeared through that. Can they chase a debt which they have not chased in four years
What is the best website for Christian debt consolidation? I have been reviewing different websites for help with my credit card debt. Because of religious beliefs I am hoping to find someone that can offer Christian debt consolidation. Does anyone know who are the best Christan debt consolidators?
How long after a debt has been created can a creditor report to the credit bureau? I had some medical bills from 4/10/01 that I didnt not pay in full. I was harassed for awhile by collections and then left alone. This debt was never reported on my credit record and has never showed up. Today on 2/14/2007 (6 years later) I receive a letter from a collections agency telling me to pay up or be reported to the credit agency. I am afraid to call because I heard making contact with them could cause the statutes of limitation to start up again. My question is, If I ignore them, can they really report this to the credit bureaus since the debt was from 6 years ago? Is this just a scare tactic at this point- keep in mind I havent heard from them in 5 years until now all of the sudden. I live in Texas btw
What is the best debt consolidation company at the moment? I have over 10,000 dollars worth of credit card debt. should I consider consolidating? I can afford the payments no problem, but in the long run, the interest may be more than what I could have paid if I was in a debt consolidation program. Does that make sense to you? Thank you for your time.
What is sole benefit of property and debt in a divorce? I live in Minnesota going through a dissolution of marraige. My understanding is marital property and debt is divided 50/50. Each party keeps all property and debt prior to the marraige. I believe like a car is considered sole property when that person is the only one who uses it. I believe the debt still will need to be paid to me even though it is consolidated in other loans.

How far can the National Debt go before China and other countries decide to stop lending us money? The National Debt is currently at 12.5 trillion dollars, and rising by the second. Now, it doesn't look like that money will be paid off anytime soon. It is the result of years of massive military and social spending, predominantly. Under Reagan, the National Debt rose substantially due to the ridiculous military buildup that the government oversaw, along with massive overall government expansion, and during his presidency, the US went from being the largest creditor nation on earth to the largest debtor nation. So my question is how do we take care of this problem?
Do these cases of government debt and budget deficit indicate potential problems for the economy? Does the size of the government's debt and the size of the budget deficit indicate potential problems for the economy in any of these cases? 1. The government's debt is relatively low, but the government is running a large budget deficit as it builds a high-speed rail system to connect the major cities of the nation. 2. The government's debt is relatively high due to a recently ended deficit-financed war, but the government is now running only a small budget deficit. 3. The government's debt is relatively low, but the government is running a budget deficit to finance the interest payments on the debt.

How much of the national debt was carried over from the Bush Amdinistration? Bush took office 9 years ago with a financial surplus left by Clinton. In the eight years Bush was president our national debt went up almost three times what is was when he took office. The Obama administration is now showing the greatest national debt in our history. That debt includes a great amount of debt left by Bush - anyone have any idea where a person can find out what the national debt was on 1 January 2009?
Is financial analysis and consolidating debt really worth it? My boyfriend and I just had a financial analysis done but haven't gotten the results on our options yet. Is it really worth it to go through with this? Has anyone had experience on it? I mean we have debt but not so much we can't handle. On the other hand we are both mid-twenties and have no retirement savings started and we are not able to put much, if any, in our savings accounts. We will have the option to consolidate debt, start retirement accounts, have money to put in savings, and get better life insurance. Is this just a ploy for the financial company to prey on young people or is this real? Please help!
How can I pay off unsecured debt if I move abroad? I am planning a move to the Dominican Republic from the US. I have unsecured debt (school loans and credit cards) which I want to repay, but the average income in the Dominican Republic is much lower and I know I would not be able to make minimum payments. Can debt relief services affect your credit if you use them to lower your interest rate? I am planning to sign up for Care One debt relief services to help me consolidate my CC debt. Do you think this will actually work? will this affect my credit rating? Does anyone have an opinion about this company and their services. I was reading their blog and for the most part it sounds like it really works but I'm trying to search for more answers. Thank you in advance for any suggestions or feedback.
If I respond to a debt collection agency does this start the Statue of Limitations all over again? I live in Texas and I am being hounded by a debt collection agency. I do own this debt, but I have not responded to their endless phone calls and text messages. I was told the minute I have any contact with the debt collector this will "Restart the Statute Of Limitations" and this just gives them more time to harass me or file suit. I 'm not sure but I think the Statute of Limitations for Credit Debt in the state of Texas is 3 years.
How do I reduce my debt owed to a collections agency and get a fair settlement? I've recently had to move out of an apt and have broken the lease (my first time ever). I had to do this due to financial difficulties. The apt. complex turned my debt owed to them over to collections after I didn't pay for only two weeks and is now telling me that I have to pay $900 out of $1094 that I owe. I'm thinking that they should be allowing me to pay a much smaller settlement. Any thoughts?
How can I get a debtor to remove a settled debt off credit report? I filed my taxes today and included a 1099c form for a credit card debt of $10,107. All of my bills are paid on time and I only have one debt left that is a positive on my report. My goal is to be debt free and buy a house this year.
Can Republicans seriously talk to anyone about reducing debt? The last 3 Republican Presidents have run up our national debt outrageously. They are Ronald Reagan, George Bush and George Bush Jr. Now Obama inherited an 8 year Republican made debt and the Republicans are criticizing Obama for debt. Can anyone take this seriously? If so, how do you do that?
Is the SOL on credit card debt determined by the state you currently live in or where the debt originated? Is the Statute of Limitations on credit card debt, determined by the state you currently live in or where the debt originated? I have a debt that I stopped paying on in Jan 2002. I acquired the debt while living in Texas and stopped paying it while living in Texas. My husband is military so we have lived in Missouri for the past 4 years. The SOL for TX is 4 years for open accounts (credit cards) and for MO it is 5 years. Either way, the SOL has run out on this debt, however I am still wondering which would apply to us since we are military? We claim TX as our home/residence. Thanks! This debt was sold to a debt collector years ago. I have known others that have written cease and desist letters so I am not so sure that SOL on card debt is a "myth".
How can I tell if an email from a debt collector is a scam or legitimate? It is the only contact I have received from them. My name is not on the email. The web address included to contact them is not accessible to me. When I tried it, the message read that I needed to try a different domain. I know I have no debts owed. I have not received any mail or telephone calls from debt collectors. Does this sound like a hoax, scam or legitimate email?

How much debt can I incur on my card without getting my lines of credit lowered? I have no credit card debt and an an excellent credit report. I am going to do a small remodel on my rental property and plan to use my Home Depot card with no interest no payment for 12 months. I plan to use a few other cards as well. Can a debt collection agency attempt to collect money they say is still owed to the original owner? My husband and I purchased a vehicle in 2004. We couldn't afford the paymets, so we returned the vehicle to the bank. They sold the vehicle for less than what was owed. Now three years later, a collection agency is trying to get us to pay what is owed. Our credit report as of 3/2007 shows the original owner reporting that the debt is written/charged off and we have a $0 balance as of 10/2004. Do we still owe this money?

How do I go about eliminating my credit card debt? I am 23 with a nine-month-old son, and I owe (on top of my student loans from college) approximately $30,000 in credit card debt. I am looking to do a debt management/consolidation program, but was wondering if I should just contact those credit card companies that say to call them if I have "financial difficulties" instead? Also, which debt consolidation programs would you refer, if any? Thank you!

The debt is so old that the company, which is Sprint, no longer handles land line phone service and hasn't for quite some time. They can't tell me how to pay the bill with them directly. I've already paid $50.00 to the collection agency for the debt before being told to have the agency validate the debt first. I need to know what to do if the agency doesn't or is unable to validate the debt.
How to stop telemartketing and debt companies calling my landline? There are a few debt companies and telemarketers call my house landline everyday.
